Performs various preventative maintenance inspections of vehicles and buildings, including adjustments to doors, steering, wheel bearings, brakes and controls.
Performs required checks, routines and procedures to assure compliance with Transit standards, applicable laws and safety regulations and with government vehicle safety inspections.
Cleans, services and replaces lights, fuses, quick release valves, tires, batteries, windshield wipers and washers.
Lubricates vehicles and changes engine and transmission oil and filters.
Assists tradesperson with the maintenance and repair of vehicles, shop equipment and buildings.
Prepares reports and records information pertaining to service work performed.
Performs vehicle changeovers in accordance with established procedures.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Grade 12 education.
Related experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy-duty equipment.
Possession of own tools appropriate for the work.
Successful and efficient completion the assigned training in accordance with Transit maintenance procedures and practices.
Knowledge in the use of mechanical tools and equipment.
Knowledge of occupational health hazards and safety precautions.
Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
Ability to perform the above duties in an efficient manner and according to department procedures.
Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.
