Duties

Assists with the supervision, training and assignment of work for the maintenance personnel engaged in the maintenance, cleaning and repair of Transit vehicles and associated equipment, buildings and passenger amenities.
Performs the work and duties of a Journeyperson in the trade.
Assists and advises the Mechanical Shop Supervisor regarding the formulation of long-term work programs and objectives.  Assists with the development of the scheduling, procedures, safety and work standards required to attain the long-term programs and objectives.
Maintains daily work schedules in accordance with the overall maintenance routines and program.
Provides written and oral reports regarding the progress of maintenance activities, vehicle and shop equipment repairs, rebuilding and modification of vehicles and shop equipment, as required.
Assists maintenance staff with the proper methods and procedures for the safe use of shop equipment, tools and materials.
Ensures the full and proper recording of vehicle defects, repairs, overhauls, changeovers and inspections and processing of time sheets and associated records.
Assists with continuous or additional on-the-job training of journeymen, apprentices and service persons, including safety and related programs.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Grade 12 education.
Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Journeyperson Truck and Transport Mechanic and/or Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic Certificate.
Three years' applicable trade experience as a Heavy Duty Journeyperson Mechanic related to maintenance of a transit fleet.
Successful completion of, or ability to complete successfully, a recognized supervisor certification program.
Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5A Driver's License.
Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
Considerable knowledge of methods, procedures, equipment and materials used in transit vehicle repair and maintenance.
Considerable knowledge of the City’s safety policies, practices and procedures, collective agreement, letters of understanding, Provincial Occupational Health and Safety regulations and applicable bylaws.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and to adapt to changes in employees, scheduling, procedures and equipment.
Demonstrated ability to make efficient use of equipment.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Transit staff, other civic employees, the public and suppliers.
Demonstrated ability to supervise, plan, coordinate and direct the work of subordinate staff.
Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.
Skill in the operation of a computer with related software.

Salary
$35.02 per hour. (2012 rates)
