Saskatoon parking and traffic volumes traditionally increase leading up to and over the holiday season, particularly around malls and shopping centres.
In 2017, Saskatoon Transit piloted a specific bus route that allowed customers access to 4 of Saskatoon’s malls using public transit – Centre Mall, Market Mall, Confederation Mall, and Lawson Heights Mall.
The Jingle Bell Express provided customers access to the malls without having to compete with traffic or pay parking fees. For the customer, this means no winter driving stress or frustrations over full parking lots. It also encourages shoppers to visit malls they may otherwise not due to parking or driving constraints.
A decision was made to continue with the Jingle Express route for the 2018 holiday season with the addition of Midtown Plaza as one of the stops. Saskatoon Transit is keeping the same routing for 2019.
